Data Center Load (DataCenterLoad)

Class: DataCenterLoad | Module: energysim.models.loads | Validation benchmarks | Units

Overview

Hyperscale AI / Cloud Data Center Electrical & Thermal Load.

Grid power = IT power x PUE(T_amb) with PUE from a lookup curve; 98 % of IT power is assumed to appear as recoverable waste heat. Quasi-static (no thermal inertia or workload dynamics). Validity: T_amb -10..40 C, 0 <= IT <= it_capacity_mw.

Parameters

Parameter Type Default Unit Description
name str 'DataCenter' - -
it_capacity_mw float 100.0 MW Nominal IT compute server capacity in MW.
base_pue float 1.15 - Base Power Usage Effectiveness at mild ambient temperatures (<=10 C with the default curve).
pue_curve Optional[Curve1D] None - PUE vs ambient dry-bulb temperature.
step_size float 1.0 s -

Inputs

Variable Unit Description
P_it_cmd_MW MW -
T_amb degC Ambient wet/dry-bulb temperature

Outputs

Variable Unit Description
P_total_grid_MW MW -
P_it_MW MW -
P_cooling_MW MW Total grid power minus IT power (cooling plus other infrastructure)
PUE 1 Operating Power Usage Effectiveness
Q_waste_heat_MW MW -

Validity and notes

Validity: T_amb -10..40 C, 0 <= IT <= it_capacity_mw.

Usage example

from energysim import world
from energysim.models import DataCenterLoad

sim = world(start_time=0, stop_time=3600, t_macro=900)
sim.add_model('datacenterload', model=DataCenterLoad(), outputs=['P_total_grid_MW', 'P_it_MW', 'P_cooling_MW'], step_size=60)
res = sim.simulate()
print(res['datacenterload'].tail(2))
